I grew up on a farm in Iowa. My first glimpse of the outside world came through the National Geographic magazines my grandparents left at our home when they visited. The photos of all those far-off places, exotic animals, remote villages, and incredible landscapes left a deep impression on me. A part of me wasn't entirely sure that all those places and people could actually exist in reality.
Nearly 20 years after first glimpsing those magazines, I boarded a plane and flew to Mexico and began a backpacking trip that spanned many years and continents. After the trip ended, I could no longer doubt that all those far-off places were real. I can personally testify that they're real and that the world is unfathomably vast, and beautiful.
But despite the earth's overwhelming beauty, and the fact that we should all be walking around googly-eyed in utter awe at its magnificence, the light reflecting up from the earth and into our eyes is met with increasing interference as we age. The light that once left us mesmerized less often reaches the profound depths it did when we were young and googly-eyed.
That's what this blog is about. Reducing that interference. Increasing the frequency. And, ultimately, altering Experience.
